Day 84- Washington, D.C.: Sacrifices For God’s Glory

In the Old Testament there were many occasions where people offered up burnt animal sacrifices towards God in the form of bulls, rams and lambs. Today we may not be killing animals to show our love to God like in the B.C. timeframe, but we do offer many other sacrifices that are equally hard to obey in some regards in A.D. We are all called to give up everything on Earth in order to gain the Kingdom of Heaven, as a lot is asked of us from our Father.

When we sacrifice ourselves in a manner that clearly shows our commitment to God, we are blessed eternally. It is not easy to resist temptation, turn the other cheek, or to lay down our lives in order for Jesus to enter into our hearts. However, this is exactly what we must do in order to receive all of our blessings from God. It is a constant battle separating ourselves from sin, as we set out to show God that we are worthy of all of His blessings.

In Hebrews we are instructed to “not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased”. This passage is telling us that when we do good and follow the commandments of God, we are making sacrifices for the Lord, from which He is very pleased with us. These decisions that we make to give up our wants for God’s desires, allows us to grow closer to our Lord in every imaginable way possible.

Sacrifices that we make should not be viewed as a hindrance, but rather an opportunity to prove our hearts desires to God. If we do not make sacrifices on Earth, how could we ever possibly have God’s blessing on judgment day? Yes, we are all saved and marked for Heaven. However, if we do not obey God and have the faith of a mustard seed we will be judged accordingly. Only God can judge us on our actions in this world and no human has the ability to speak for God. The sacrifices that are requested of us come from God, and through our own personal triumphs over evil in this world we are saved. Amen!
