Day 144- Richmond, Virginia: Looking Ahead
When we look past the horizon, what do we see? Do we see valleys, mountains, rivers, or oceans that make up the beauty of this world? Looking even further than that, what do we see in the future for our family, friends, people whom we do not even know in this world, and ourselves? Do we see a life filled with joy and happiness as we look ahead to the coming of Jesus back into this world or do we see a blanket of unknown that comes like a dense fog at daybreak?
We know the Lord our God, because we have sat and ate in his midst daily for our entire lives. We know our Father in Heaven, as he shows us the way to Him through His son, Jesus Christ. We also equally know what is to come on the “Day of the Lord”, as described in 2 Peter: “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells”. As we look ahead for what is to come, we already know the answer through the Word of God in our hearts, minds, and bodies through the Holy Spirit that dwells within us.
We are given a gift of love and thanksgiving to share with one another. We are given a choice to make as well, to either serve God or not. What we believe to be true only matters, if we have prepared our souls for when God returns. All the speculation in the world could never prepare us for what is to come. Only through our absolute faith are we healed as we repent to God through Jesus. As we have been taught repeatedly, no man can go to the Father without going through the Son. How will we prepare ourselves, knowing what we now know on our journey ahead?
