Sexual Abuse Secrets Revealed

Sexual Abuse Secrets Revealed

This story shared by Katie Couric is one of many that I have seen aired on her show involving abuse. The woman in the video is very courageous and brave. It is extremely difficult to go on national TV and share your story.

The bottom line is that abuse and child abuse specifically should not be tolerated in any society anywhere around the world. We cannot watch every person in every situation, but there are clear warning signs of problems that may be going on inside the homes of potentially your neighbor or a relative that you can be aware of. Looking out for these signs at schools, workplaces, and social activities can make the difference between a life and a death.

Why One Woman Kept Her Father’s Sexual Abuse a Secret

We have to educate and provide resources to help thwart abuse to those who are in key professional positions, and also to the people who can be on the lookout in the communities on a day-to-day basis. Any form of abuse can be devastating in the minds of a child or adult. Once abuse occurs in someone’s life it can never be taken away. However, we can also help these survivors of abuse heal. My new book- “Turning the Page: Overcoming Abuse to Reach Life’s Fulfillment”, does just that. It is a step-by-step practical guide to help survivors of abuse move on with their lives in a positive manner. We have a responsibility to ensure that any future abuse is limited to isolated situations and not the “norm”.

Helping others heal and move forward is a critical element to the recovery from someone who has suffered from emotional, psychological, physical, and or sexual abuse. It is not easy but with help there is hope. The Foreword to Turning the Page was written by Dr. James E. Sellman, from Richmond, Virginia, who has over 40 years experience in Child Psychiatry. He also recognizes the importance of helping others move forward towards a life of fulfillment. Power of One is working as an organization to help educate survivors of abuse and provide resources that allow people to heal.
