30 Aug The Art of Meeting and Exceeding Goals
Rocky Balboa had a goal to be a champion with the heart of a lion, and Pinocchio had a goal of becoming a real boy. What do both of these fictional characters have to do with you? Everything. When we watched these movies as a child or as an adult we learned that we could accomplish anything when we put our mind to it. In life we all have the ability to reach the highest mountains, and conquer every obstacle in our way when we believe in ourselves.
What are your goals personally and professionally? Are you actively working towards those goals, and what are you doing to measure your results? These are simple questions that we all can easily overlook in the busy lives that we lead everyday. Taking the time to evaluate yourself, and where you are headed is the first step in determining what exactly you would like to accomplish. Goal making is only worthwhile with a commitment from within to reach your objective. Where there is a will, than there is a way to win every day regardless of what is going on around you.
The real difference between winning and losing is effort, commitment, and execution. When you practice the seven steps listed below you will begin to realize that you can have the success you desire, and it begins with having a vision for where you are headed. Remember 10 years ago when we did not have GPS, and we still got around with an old fashioned map or directions printed out on a piece of paper?
- Set realistic goals within realistic time frames
- Share the details of your goal
- Draw up a plan
- Visualize exceeding your expectations
- Monitor your progress at appropriate intervals
- Be open to suggestions to improve
- Celebrate your accomplishments
The road map to success begins and ends with you, as you allow yourself to be all you can be. Short and long term goals are the basis of our life journey, and recognizing how we are getting from point A to point B is a critical element in our lives. We make decisions that impact us everyday, and why not have a plan to reach the top of the steps like Rocky?
